Short update

The company that met with me earlier this week really wants to get me in on the team they're forming. I've got to meet with them a bit more, but if all goes well, I might have a new job within the next 48 hours.

I feel like jumping onto a table and yelling about it for a few minutes. As is, I'm going to be having dinner with the neighbors soon and I'm sure they'll hear ALL about it.

I feel like a little part of my life has kind of woken up and looked around. Even if I don't get this job (and I really hope I do), I'm no worse off than I was before, and I proved one thing - it's possible. There's options out there.

Ive missed quite a few posts it seems. Is this job interview for EMS or something else?
Regarding your Jan 2nd post, my future career wa supposed to be marine biology, and now I live in the desert...go figure.

Not yet; I'm still stuck in software for the time being. It's going to be a few years before I can get the debt down enough to afford to leave the field.

It'll give me a chance to mull it all over anyway, and I'm hoping to get on as a volunteer EMT one of these days when life settles a little. As much as I love reading about it, thinking about it, and thinking I could do it, nothing's going to be the same as *doing* it! :)

I think it happens to people all the time; my father started out in fisheries and now the vice president of an insurance agency. My husband is wanting to start a career in opera. These things happen.

I see. Have you read 'Ambulance Girl'? It's a great book that you would probably enjoy reading if ou havent already.

I read the book and even managed to catch the movie adaptation. :) Really enjoyed both of them, too. ;)

I've got a mixed bag of replies lately on this one. For the most part, people think it's something that I'd be good at, and then I get the few people who say, "I had a friend who does that and their health is really bad" or "you don't want to do that, they're depressed all the time."

Maybe all the EMT/paramedic sorts who I talk to are the exception, but they seem pretty well adjusted overall. ;)

You have to sort out the relevent facts from the ignorance.
You will see some crap that will haunt your thoughts.
But you will experience what it feels like to help someone when they are utterly helpless.
The only EMTs that are depressed are burn outs that arent cut out for it anymore.
You will not earn the kind of money that ol Bill could provide.
You sound like you have the bug, so get crackin before you lose your nerve! You could also try to score a ride along to see what it's like.
